The old saying goes, “An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.” Those are words to live by for any small business, and most certainly on hunting preserves where customers use firearms and workers use agricultural equipment. NAGA’s first Hunting Club Conference, which takes place July 18-20 at Deer Creek State Park in Mt. Sterling, Ohio, will feature two presentations that address managing risk and liability.
Jeff Hughes of Minnesota’s Wild Wings of Oneka will explain how essential it is to develop a safety manual for guides and employees. Jeff will share material from his manual and explain how it helped Wild Wings minimize safety and injury incidents. He will also discuss the implementation of safety protocols and how to get buy-in from employees.
It’s well known that finding liability insurance for hunting preserves can be a challenge. It can be even more challenging for businesses that don’t pay close attention to workplace and customer safety. That’s what makes Jeff’s presentation so important. On a related note, Steve Davis of JH Ward Insurance Company will share the tricks of the trade to finding liability insurance for hunting clubs. Steve will share information on what to look for in locating affordable insurance, but more importantly, how to ensure quality insurance coverage that comes through when it’s needed the most.
The Hunting Club Conference will feature these presentations and many more. Registration is open and includes meals. Sponsorship and exhibitor opportunities are also available. Information on these items, plus lodging, can be found here.
